Yogadevotion Sampler: Bethel Flow with Allyson Huval

Bethel means “a holy place” or “house of God.” In this slow yoga flow, we focus on honoring our bodies as the house of God while also creating a holy place that fosters the spiritual growth of students. This interfaith yoga class will include readings from various sacred texts, asanas from modern postural yoga classes, and devotional meditations to lead into an extended savasana. This class seeks to honor the South Asian roots of yoga while encouraging Christians to experience the benefits of a yoga practice. All faiths are welcome to join and ask questions!

Allyson is a religious literacy advocate that believes the best way to understand cultural diversity is through learning one’s spirituality. After completing her yoga teacher training, Allyson delved into researching the spiritual aspects of yoga. She is the founder of Bethel Yogi, a blog focused on interfaith yoga from a Catholic perspective; the community organizer for The Catholic Yogis, a community and blog for Catholics who practice yoga; and the managing director of Christians Practicing Yoga. She is a registered yoga teacher, a registered children’s yoga teacher, and a certified aerial yoga teacher. She is pursuing her 500-hour certification with the Himalayan Institute.

Allyson received a bachelor of arts in both public relations and religious studies from Louisiana State University. She is attending Yale Divinity School specifically researching Christianity and Asian Religions.
